Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer speaks at a press briefing outlining Democrats’ conditions for Homeland Security funding.
While international talks on Iran and Ukraine unfold today, here’s the latest on the partial U.S. government shutdown.
Last night, Democrats submitted a counteroffer to the White House outlining the Department of Homeland Security reforms they want, according to a spokesperson for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The move comes as negotiations to restore DHS funding continue to stall, with lawmakers currently on a weeklong recess.
Ahead of the counteroffer, former President Donald Trump said yesterday evening aboard Air Force One that he is willing to meet with Democrats to discuss lapsed DHS funding.
“I will, but you know, we have to protect our law enforcement—they’ve done a great job,” Trump told reporters.
