U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio addresses the 62nd Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany, on February 14, 2026.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio began his highly anticipated address at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Saturday by highlighting the historic importance of the transatlantic alliance that, in his words, “saved the world” from past threats.
“While we are prepared, if necessary, to act alone, it is our preference — and our hope — to do this with you, our friends here in Europe,” Rubio said.
“We belong together,” he added, stressing the value of the decades-long U.S.-Europe partnership, which has faced significant strain during President Donald Trump’s second term.
Rubio acknowledged that the U.S. can sometimes be “direct and urgent in our counsel,” but he reassured European leaders that the Trump administration remains committed to the alliance.
